I am looking for a flatmate to start a new two person flatshare in a spacious 5 room apartment in Oberstrass, Kreis 6.

The apartment is available from mid October 2026 and rented on a fixed term basis until 30 September 2027.

The apartment

One of the biggest advantages is simply the amount of space. The entire 5 room apartment will be shared by only two people, so there is plenty of room for comfortable shared living while still having your own space.

The apartment has:

  • 5 rooms shared by only two people
  • 2 balconies
  • separate bathroom and toilet
  • our own washing machine
  • beautiful original stucco ceilings
  • generous shared spaces
  • a very quiet residential setting despite the central location

It is an older, well maintained apartment that has not been newly renovated, so there are some normal signs of age. At the same time, it has beautiful architectural details and plenty of potential to make it a really nice home.

The flat will be newly set up as a two person flatshare, so the shared spaces are not already fully predetermined and there is plenty of opportunity to shape and furnish them together.

Having some of your own furniture, plants or other interior pieces would be a real plus, as would some practical skills and an interest in shaping the place together. There is quite a lot of freedom to make the shared spaces our own, but none of this is a requirement.

The private room itself will be unfurnished, so you should bring or organise the furniture you personally need.

Location

The location in Oberstrass, Kreis 6, is probably one of the strongest aspects of the apartment. It is extremely quiet and residential while still being very central.

ETH is less than 10 minutes away on foot, around 3 minutes by bike or about 5 minutes by tram.

Zurich HB and the Limmat are around 10 minutes away on foot or approximately 5 minutes by bike.

There are direct tram connections to both Zurich HB and Zurich Airport. The airport takes around 25 minutes by tram and approximately 10 minutes by car.

Within a few minutes’ walk, there are several supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, a pharmacy, post office and essentially everything needed for everyday life.

At the same time, the Zürichberg and the forest are only a few minutes away, as are some beautiful viewpoints over Zurich, the lake and the Alps.

For me, it is a pretty ideal combination of being close to everything while still living somewhere calm and green.

About me and the kind of flatshare I am looking for

I am in my early thirties, work at ETH and am quite busy professionally. I am usually out during the day and also travel regularly.

The most important thing for me is living with someone who is considerate, respectful and clean. I really appreciate people who naturally have a sense for the fact that they are sharing a home with someone else and treat the apartment accordingly.

That means keeping shared spaces tidy, cleaning up after yourself, especially after cooking, and generally leaving things in a way that makes living together pleasant for both people. I am not interested in complicated cleaning schedules or lots of rules. I would much rather live with someone for whom these things come naturally.

Ideally, you are at a roughly similar stage of life, have your own work, interests and social life, and are usually out during the day. Occasional home office is of course completely fine.

Non smoker is a must.

At the same time, I also do not want this to feel like two strangers simply sharing the same address.

It would be great if we genuinely get along, naturally chat when we meet in the kitchen, occasionally cook together, have a drink, do sports or spontaneously do something together when it fits. There is no expectation to regularly spend time together, but it would be nice if it naturally happens from time to time.

For me, the ideal flatshare is one where both people have their own lives, but it still feels like a shared home rather than just two separ
